Fulcrum: 89 Rivington
34,000 Square Feet, $30 Million, New York, NY
In 2005, a major structural collapse occurred at the First Romanian Congregation Synagogue in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. This is indicative of the rapid transition this neighborhood is experiencing as it changes from a 200 year-old destination for Jewish immigrants to one of the most desirable locals for Manhattan’s young creative professionals. Fulcrum proposed a ground-up development where the congregation would maintain a ground floor presence as a condominium space with the upper floors serving as a commercial condominium portion at grade, while developing the remainder of the building for non-secular uses. |
